Gonda: A meeting was held at the Congress Bhawan in Gonda on Wednesday to finalise preparations for October 2 programmes, following a call from the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. The meeting was led by City Congress Committee president Shahid Ali Qureshi.
The party said programmes would be organised across the city to mark the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and freedom fighter Masuria Din Pasi. The planned activities include a prabhat pheri, a discussion session and a community meal in Dalit settlements, along with floral tributes.
During the meeting, retired clerk Kailash Chandra Srivastava and Mohammad Rahim were formally welcomed into the party with garlands and party scarves.
Qureshi said people were joining the Congress and that the party would work to take the ideas and legacy associated with Gandhi, Shastri and Masuria Din Pasi to people across the city.
District Convener Dr Syed Abdul Mujeeb, Pradesh Organisation Secretary (Seva Dal) Anis Nana, City Organisation In-charge Sukai Bharti, Shaukat Ali alias Mali Baba, Backward Classes City President Mohammad Rizwan, Shahida Anjum, Shiv Shankar Kashyap, Janki Devi and a large number of party office-bearers and workers attended the meeting.
Recent local reports also show the Gonda City Congress Committee conducting organisational and membership activities under Qureshi’s leadership.
